Visual comparisons are hardly conclusive evidence. People are forever going back to their dealers a month after their oil change to complain that the oil "looks dirty," and quick-lubes and other disreputable repair facilities have been showing their customers the "old vs new" fluid comparisons to sell more fluid changes since the beginning of time.
I have a 2017 GTI. A manual transmission flush with the Genuine VW fluid (75 weight, so I hear) will run about $150 for 3 bottles at ECS Tuning. Yipes! Some people upgrade to the Motul Gear 300 75W-90, but this is my daily driver, so the cold shift issues with that take it out of consideration. I am not tuned, so don't need its extra protection.
When I had my MK5 I used the Mann air cleaner filter specified for my car. It wasn't nearly as sturdy as the original. So I feel you don't necessarily get OEM quality just because the company is a supplier to VW. VW is just a customer they make filters for. Order hundreds of thousands of anything and they'll make it to your specs.
Front diff is part of the gearbox and shares it's oil with that but I 've not seen an official guide on changing the front transmission oil. I've found some information that says a PP GTI with the electronic diff should have a gearbox oil change every 3 years but can't find anything for the R.
The car was levelled and it was over flowing, so its full, but i thought there was a bigger oil capacity in that box. If anyone is changing their oil and they need a large allen key to open the gearbox drain and fill nut, its 17mm allen key to open it. Just so ye will know the size.
Hi all, Looking at buying a Mk7 VW Golf (1.4 TSI) or a Civic (2014-2015). Clearly there is a big oil capacity difference between a 1.0L European car and a 5.0L
8GF0v.
